The 1938 Tennessee football team finished with an undefeated season in which the team scored 293 points in 11 games and only surrendered 16 points. That is an average score of Tennessee 26.6 to their oppennets average of 1.5 points per game. What makes the defense and the entire team for that matter, look at the last two games of 1937 thru the 1939 season. In that period of time UT gave up 30 points in 24 games for 1.25 points per game. The offense wasn't shabby either scoring 23 points per game in that 24 game stretch.

1938 was the first season that UT would claim a National Title. A 11-0-0 record would land the Vols atop the polls at years end.

The team in 1938 was led by 3 All-Americans, they were End Bowden Wyatt, Guard Bob Suffridge, and Tailback George Cafego.

The 1938 Team still ranks in the Top 5 in All Time School History in Fewest Points Allowed (3rd) and Highest Point Diffenetial (5th).
