The College Football Championship Belt The belt was conceived in 2009, after reading this website. This could be conceived as a longer, simpler version of that, going all the way back to that fateful first game in 1869. Any team in any division may hold the belt, but a loss will give the belt to the team that beat the team with the belt. The belt is awesome because it can only be won one way; by beating the team with the belt. The last, and maybe most important thing is that whoever holds the belt will be named national champion for that year.
